Incumbent Republican Senator Jerry Moran was first elected in 2010, winning the seat vacated by Sam Brownback, and ran for re-election to a third term in office.
[1] Democrat Mark Holland, the former mayor of Kansas City, was Moran's opponent in the general election.
[2][3] Moran ultimately won the election,[4] but his 60% share of the vote represented another decline from his first victory in 2010, and he lost Johnson County, a major suburban county that had been recently trending left in elections, for the first time in his career.
