African Rural University

This is approximately 265 kilometres (165 mi), by road, west of Kampala, the country's capital and largest city.

[3] African Rural University was established in 2006[4] and accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education in 2011.

[5] It was the first university in Africa that has focused on teaching sustainable agriculture exclusively to women.

[7] As of July 2014[update], the university offered only one degree course, the Bachelor of Science in Technologies for Rural Transformation.

Each year of classroom study is divided into two semesters lasting seventeen weeks each.
