Hybrid was featured in the comic book series Rom #17-18 (1981), and was created by writer Bill Mantlo and artist Sal Buscema.

Hybrid is the child of the human woman Marjorie and a Dire Wraith under the identity of Jacob Marks.

Shortly before Jimmy turned 15, he was visited by Dire Wraiths who taught him to use his latent powers, as well as the ways of evil.

[1][2] In subsequent appearances, Hybrid battles the X-Men after reforming his body before losing his powers to the Scarlet Witch during House of M.[3][4][5][6][7] He later becomes a student at the Avengers Academy before attempting to take over Wraithworld and being banished to another dimension.

[8][9][10][11] Hybrid later returns to Earth under unspecified circumstances and is captured by the High Evolutionary, who believes him to be a threat to humanity.
