Namegawa has a mayor-council form of government with a directly elected mayor and a unicameral town council of 14 members.
In terms of national politics, the town is part of Saitama 10th district of the lower house of the Diet of Japan.
The economy of Namegawa is largely agricultural, although it is also a bedroom community to a significant percentage of the working population, who commute to nearby Saitama City or Tokyo.
