Ian Allan Publishing had its offices at the western end of the station, and the company bought the Pullman car Malaga for hospitality, sited near the terminus buffers.

The original scheme intended that it would extend to a terminus on the Middlesex bank of the River Thames just east of Chertsey Bridge, but this plan was abandoned in 1862.
