Some of the highest peaks of the province are listed below:[1] According to the Peru 2005 Census 77,721 inhabitants live in an area of 5,371.08 km2.
The people in the province are mainly indigenous citizens of Quechua descent.
Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (91.07%) learnt to speak in childhood, 8.62% of the residents started speaking in Spanish (2007 Peru Census).
